Meet Your Teacher
Carla McGlynn

Hi, I'm Carla! I'm the founder and teacher at The Rainbow Music School. I run lessons out of my home-studio, where I live with my husband and my son. If you’re looking for a strict, stuffy, traditional music school - move along, because that is not how I do things here.
I’ve been musical my whole life (my mum’s friends used to say “Uh… does she ever stop singing?”) and have over fifteen years of experience teaching music in pretty much every setting imaginable. After graduating from my Bachelor of Music (Majoring in Piano Performance) and my Bachelor of Education (Majoring in Secondary Music and Minoring in Primary Music) I taught classroom music for kindergarten to Grade 10 students at an Ipswich Anglican school. While I was there, I also directed three choirs, a glee club and a ukulele ensemble. At the same time I taught private piano and singing lessons, Musical Theatre and Glee classes and early-childhood Music and Drama classes at The Studio of Performing Arts Springfield. My students called my classroom ‘the rainbow room’ because it was so colourful and fun!
In 2017 I began teaching keyboard, guitar, ukulele, drums, singing and rock band to schools in Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast on The Music Bus. I soon moved on to mentor teachers, manage programs and write curriculum, as well as running online lessons for remote and regional schools.
The impact of the Covid-19 gave me some time to reflect and I realised it was time to start some lessons of my own - so The Rainbow Music School was born. Along with my friend and colleague Becky Nock, we launched in April of 2020. Since then the school has grown from only a few online students, to over sixty students, including a thriving cohort of home-school musicians. In 2025 Becky emigrated back to England with her family, so I am the sole teacher here now.
I was born in Sydney and brought up in Brisbane, but am now residing in Ipswich with my little family. I began singing lessons when I was five, piano lessons when I was seven, guitar lessons at eleven and percussion/drums at thirteen. I've been performing in choirs my entire life, including the Imogen Children's Chorale and the National Youth Choir of Australia. In my high school days I also performed with The Queensland Youth Orchestra in the percussion section. In my spare time I like to read, garden and play video games and my favourite colour is all of them!
I can’t wait to meet you and share my love of music with you!
